大学卒業後、[Stir Up!]というユニットでデビュー。
日本で初の女性サックス奏者として注目される。山下洋輔パンジャオーケストラを経て、原田芳雄voのサポートを20年務める。
1987年にドイツのミュージシャン（ハンス・ライヒエルg)に招聘されヨーロッパツアーを行う。以後、ドイツ、NYなどのジャズフェスティバルに参加、大好評を博す。また、2/26に毎年山下洋輔氏とバースデイコンサートを行っている（2023年で34回目を迎える）。
1998年5月にサックスカルテット（林栄一bs,as、菊地成孔のちに川嶋哲郎ts、津上健太as,ss、吉田隆一bs）＋1（永田利樹bass）のグループ [Black Out]、2002年6月にはヤヒロトモヒロ、大儀見元、ワガン・ンジャエ・ローズなどのパーカッションを中心とした[Minga]を結成し、minga1枚目のCDはジョン・ゾーンのTzadikから世界発売された。2012年ブエノスアイレスにて「TReS」というグループ名で公演しアルゼンチンの人々の心を鷲掴みにした。2014年、ブラジル、アルゼンチンツアーを行い大成功。「ブエノスアイレス国際ジャズフェスティバル」、シアトル、キューバの国際ジャズフェスティバルに出演。現在はBaila TReS（永田利樹bass、RIObsax、早坂紗知sax、伊藤志宏p、大儀見元per、大儀見海dr）のほか、MG4（早坂紗知sax、田中信正p、永田利樹bass、佐藤芳明accordion）、高瀬アキトリオ（高瀬アキp、井野信義b、早坂紗知sax）で活動中。

Sachi Hayasaka (born 1960 in Tokyo) is a Japanese saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the pioneering female saxophonists in Japan’s improvised music scene. After graduating from university, she made her debut with the group Stir Up!, attracting attention for her powerful and expressive sound. She later performed with the Yosuke Yamashita Panja Orchestra and collaborated for more than twenty years with actor and vocalist Yoshio Harada.
In 1985 she participated in a remarkable sunrise concert on the summit of Mount Fuji, organized by drummer Mitsumasa Nonaka, where the musicians performed at dawn above the sea of clouds. This unique event became one of the most memorable early moments in her artistic life.
In 1987 Hayasaka was invited by German guitarist Hans Reichel to tour Europe, marking the beginning of her international career. Since then she has appeared at jazz festivals and concerts in Germany, New York, Seattle, Cuba, Buenos Aires and many other cities.
Every year on February 26 she performs a birthday concert with legendary pianist Yosuke Yamashita — a tradition that has continued for four decades and will celebrate its 40th edition in 2026.
Throughout her career Hayasaka has led numerous creative ensembles. In 1998 she formed the saxophone quartet project Black Out. In 2002 she founded Minga, a rhythm-centered group featuring percussionists such as Tomohiro Yahiro, Gen Ogimi and Wague N’Diaye Rose. Minga’s first album was released worldwide on John Zorn’s Tzadik label.
In 2012 she formed the trio TReS for her first South American tour. The group is a family ensemble with her son RIObsax and bassist Toshiki Nagata (father and son). The name TReS comes from the initials Toshiki, Rio and Sachi. Their performances in Buenos Aires and Patagonia were warmly received and led to continued activity in South America. In 2025 the group toured Brazil, Patagonia and Buenos Aires again.
Hayasaka has released more than twenty recordings as a leader. She is currently active in projects such as Baila TReS Dos Familias Más, MG4, and the Aki Takase Trio, continuing to explore the physicality, freedom and emotional depth of improvised music.

For me, music is a physical and emotional dialogue between people. Improvisation allows musicians to share energy, memory, and imagination in the moment, creating something that has never existed before. My work has always moved between different cultures and musical traditions. From the early days of free improvisation in Japan to collaborations with musicians from Europe, Africa, and South America, I have been interested in how rhythm, sound, and human presence can connect people beyond language. In recent years, performing with my family in the trio TReS has brought a new dimension to my music. Playing together as mother, father, and son creates a unique kind of communication on stage — something both deeply personal and universal. Whether performing in a jazz club, at a festival, or even on the summit of Mount Fuji at sunrise, I seek moments when music becomes a shared experience that transcends boundaries and brings people together.
私にとって音楽とは、人と人との身体的で感情的な対話です。即興演奏は、その瞬間にエネルギーや記憶、想像力を共有し、それまで存在しなかったものを生み出す行為だと感じています。私の音楽は、常にさまざまな文化や音楽的伝統の間を行き来してきました。日本でのフリーインプロヴィゼーションの初期の活動から、ヨーロッパ、アフリカ、南米のミュージシャンとの共演まで、リズムや音、そして人の存在が言葉を越えて人と人をつなぐ瞬間に強い興味を持っています。近年は、家族で結成したトリオTReSでの活動が、私の音楽に新しい次元をもたらしています。母・父・息子という家族としてステージに立つことは、とても個人的でありながら同時に普遍的なコミュニケーションを生み出します。ジャズクラブでも、フェスティバルでも、あるいは富士山頂の夜明けの演奏であっても、私は音楽が境界を越えて人々を結びつける瞬間を大切にしています。
